What to pack!

5 weeks to go HOLY COW!! I'm so excited and so scared, am I ready for this? I'm not. I still have somethings to do before I feel ready, but one thing I want to do right this time around is pack appropriately for the hospital. When I had Ana I didn't use any of the things I packed and of all things I forgot to pack a toothbrush!! One thing I did take and will take again is my own pillow, hospital pillows are the worst and I need to be comfortable hehe! So I'm reaching out to you my fellow women of experience in the hospital what do you pack? Whats one thing on your list of must haves at the hospital, help me know what to do because its been soo long I can't remember what I should have packed!!

Congrats on your soon to be baby...having just been there in December, I would have liked the following; some hand sanitizer for after changing baby, so you don't have to get up to wash your hands all the time. Soft tissues, hospital tissues are like sand paper. Pump, if you plan to breast feed. Video camera, not for the birth (unless you want) but just hanging out in the hospital. Also, if you want your little one to take to a certain brand/type of pacifier, take them with you. And you never know, our little one came 4 weeks early, so better get packing! : )

Well Traci, if I were going in to have a baby in a few weeks, I would try to pack a laptop so I could post some cute pictures of my baby for my blogging friends!

Besides that, I really liked having flip flops to wear in the shower and around my room. I'm a C-section, so I stay longer that vaginal births, so I'm not sure if what I would recommend bringing would be overboard for someone who is only staying for a day or two! I would bring snacks (I'm starved after giving birth!), my bathrobe (to put over my gown for an added measure of modesty), my own pads (I HATE the twin mattresses they give you at the hospital!), and I would also consider packing a little bag of stuff for Ana, she will probably spend an hour or two with you and you might want some activities to keep her happy while you sit and coo at the new baby!
Good luck!

You have lots of good ideas. And like it was said, it all depends on how long you might be there. But I would pack extra just in case, it's always better to have too much then not enough! One thing I did the first time and I am gonna do again is buy a nightgown to wear. I am not a big fan of hospital robes. I buy a cheap nightgown, one that you don't care if it gets stained or not, it's not like you are gonna lounge at home in it. And I have been told the good ones are the grandma ones with the zipper for breastfeeding. We had to do a lot of hall walking because of the C-section, so I was glad to have a gown that covered me! So, good luck packing, I think I am going to use this idea on my blog too! And remember, it's only a few more weeks!

Oh, I was also going to say, perhaps a present for Ana from the new baby. I read that it is good for the older kid because kids always enjoy presents and extra attention. We are gonna try it with Tessa. We are giving her a baby doll set with diapers, carrier, bottles, the works, so she can have her own little baby to hold. Who knows if it will help or not, but we are gonna give it a whirl!

Tracie, one thing both of my girls took to the hospital when they had their babies was a small fan with a clip. They clipped them onto their headboards in the labor room and it helped keep them cool and calm during contractions. Jeanne.
